I enjoyed reading this article because it is simply a reminder that no one is perfect and no one's writing is perfect, especially the first time around. This article stresses that it is important to get the first draft down on paper so that you can work with things that your like or dislike from this initial draft. One of my favorite quotes from this article is "The first draft is the down draft--you just get it down. The second draft is the up draft--you fix it up. And the third draft is the dental draft, where you check every tooth, to see if it's loose or cramped or decayed, or even, God help us, healthy" ("Shitty First Drafts" by Anne Lamott).
I think that Dr. Hara wanted us to read this article to stress the point across that the first draft of a piece of writing is only a starting point and not "the masterpiece". You can use it to improve upon as you read over it and then revise it. I think this is an inspiring article because it shows that even great writers sometimes feel badly about their first drafts. Writing is definetly a process and it takes time to create something wonderful that you feel confident in sharing with others. I will keep this in mind as I complete written assignment this semester and in the future.
